Our Safety Leadership Team

At Bain & Irvine, our leadership team combines extensive roofing experience with an unwavering commitment to workplace safety. Each member plays a vital role in maintaining our safety standards across all projects.

JAMIE ANDERSON

MANAGING DIRECTOR

As Managing Director, Jamie ensures that safety remains central to Bain & Irvine’s operations and company culture. He allocates necessary resources to maintain our robust safety programmes and oversees our partnerships with industry accreditation and safety organisations. Jamie’s background as a qualified slater and tiler gives him practical insight when making safety-related business decisions. He personally reviews safety performance metrics and takes an active role in promoting continuous improvement of our safety systems.

TONY BENTON

HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER
& SENIOR SURVEYOR

Tony brings over 30 years of industry experience to his role overseeing our comprehensive safety protocols. He conducts thorough safety assessments during initial site surveys, ensuring that risk management begins at the quotation stage. Tony develops all Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for our projects, implements safety procedures across worksites, and maintains our regulatory compliance documentation. His extensive background in various roofing environments enables him to anticipate and address safety challenges.

BRIAN McINTYRE

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Brian applies his nearly 30 years of roofing experience to ensuring safety protocols are properly implemented across all project sites. He verifies that each team has appropriate safety equipment and training before work commences on any roofing project. Brian carries out regular site safety visits and maintains compliance with established protocols throughout projects. His practical knowledge helps our teams navigate safety challenges efficiently, contributing to our unblemished safety record.

Our Safety Philosophy

We’re firm believers that looking ahead makes all the difference in keeping everyone safe. Before our team even picks up a tool, we take the time to walk through your site, spot any potential challenges, and create a tailored safety plan for your specific roof. Whether it’s a historic Edinburgh townhouse or a modern commercial building, we consider Scotland’s unique architectural styles and often unpredictable weather when planning our approach. This careful preparation means fewer surprises, smoother project delivery, and most importantly, a safer experience for everyone involved – including your family, employees, or tenants who might be on-site during the work.

Safety techniques evolve constantly, and we’re committed to staying ahead of the curve. Our friendly team regularly gathers for training sessions where we share experiences, practice new techniques, and refresh our knowledge using the HSG33 guidelines as our foundation. From our newest apprentices to our most experienced roofers, everyone at Bain & Irvine participates in these engaging learning opportunities. Our friends at Tensh help keep us updated with the latest industry innovations and best practices. This shared learning journey creates a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and knowledge is freely shared – because when it comes to safety, we believe learning never stops.

We’ve created a safety culture where everyone has a voice and plays their part. Tony, our dedicated Health & Safety Officer, leads by example, but we’ve built our team on the idea that safety belongs to all of us. Every member of the Bain & Irvine family has the confidence to speak up if something doesn’t look right, and the authority to pause work without hesitation if conditions change. We celebrate team members who raise safety concerns rather than rushing ahead. When we review our projects, we openly discuss what went well and what we could improve next time – it’s not about pointing fingers but about growing together and ensuring everyone gets home safely at the end of each day.

We believe great safety comes from great conversations. Throughout your project, we maintain friendly, clear dialogue between our team members and with you, our client. The morning starts with a team meeting to discuss the day’s tasks and any specific safety considerations – especially important with Scotland’s changeable weather! We use straightforward language rather than complicated technical terms when discussing safety matters, and we’re always happy to explain our processes. We encourage questions and value input from everyone on site. By keeping these conversations open and approachable, we create a positive atmosphere where potential concerns come to light quickly and can be addressed with a smile rather than a worry.
